A Fully Functional D20 Dice Designed for the Tabletop. Inspired by the Great Astronomical Clocks of Europe

This is a pre-order item; it is expected to ship around October 25, at which time it will be automatically dispatched to you.

The Astronomical Clock D20 is still a D20 — its form simply comes from medieval astronomical clocks.

The outer ring and central pointer rotate together. You’re not just throwing a die; you’re setting it into motion by hand. It’s a die —
but its form comes from centuries of mechanical thinking and craftsmanship. The Astronomical Clock D20 isn’t a scaled-down astronomical clock. We didn’t try to recreate its mechanism.

What remained were its proportions, its symbols, and its visual order — the way it once attempted to hold time and the sky inside a single structure.

Prague Astronomical Clock

Prague, Czech Republic
15th Century

The Prague Astronomical Clock is recognized for its densely layered dial. Astronomical, calendrical, and symbolic systems share the same surface, creating a composition built on structure and hierarchy. In the Astronomical Clock D20, that sense of compression is reflected in multi-tier divisions, strong radial alignment, and a clearly anchored center.

Lyon Cathedral Astronomical Clock

Lyon, France
14th Century (later restored)

The clock in Lyon Cathedral feels measured and deliberate. Its structure favors segmentation and repetition over ornament. Everything is placed with space to breathe.

In the Astronomical Clock D20, we carried over that restraint — symmetrical layouts, controlled spacing, and a steady rhythm across the facets.

Padua Astronomical Clock

Padua, Italy
14th Century

The Padua clock wasn’t built only to tell time. It stood in the city as a public object, practical and symbolic at the same time.

Its dial centers on the zodiac and spatial alignment — a way of placing human life within a larger celestial order. In the Astronomical Clock D20, this influence becomes a more open outer ring and a layout that feels less anchored to one fixed point.

You set the Astronomical Clock D20 in motion on the table, and the freely rotating pointer comes to rest on your result. The randomness doesn’t come from the pointer alone. The outer ring rotates as well, creating a second shifting layer. The Astronomical Clock D20 is made for the tabletop.

Placed among dice trays, character sheets, notebooks, or miniatures, it doesn’t feel out of place. Its size and proportion belong there. Those clocks have accompanied cities for centuries, and this one accompanies each of your adventures. We designed two different packaging structures — one for the full set, and one for the single piece.
